Acrylic / PMMA

Applications:

  • Letters, displays, inlays, edge-lit panels

Notes:

  • Cast engraves frosty; extruded tends to flame-polish on cuts

Engraving Laminates (Rowmark)

Applications:

  • Badges, plates, control panels, signage inserts

Notes:

  • Clean contrast engraving; thin sheets cut easily

Films & Tapes (e.g., 3M families; PET, PC, PI)

Applications:

  • Gaskets, spacers, insulation, EMI/thermal pads, labels

Notes:

  • Excellent for precise, tool-less die-cutting and multi-layer stacks

Engineering Plastics (ABS, PC, POM/Delrin, Nylon)

Applications:

  • Housings, fixtures, jigs, panels

Notes:

  • Behavior varies by grade/fill; geometry and finish goals matter

Foams (PORON, PE, EVA)

Applications:

  • Cushioning, NVH pads, case inserts, seals

Notes:

  • Fast, clean cuts; good for short-run converting

Composites (FR-4/G10, Carbon Fiber/CFRP)

Applications:

  • PCB proto/depanel, brackets, lightweight panels

Notes:

  • Parameter choice affects edge quality; consider extraction

Woods (MDF, Plywood, Hardwoods, Bamboo)

Applications:

  • Signage, décor, cabinetry accents, models

Notes:

  • Engraves with good contrast; cuts vary by resin/moisture

Metals (Marking: Anodized Aluminum, Stainless, Coated Metals)

Applications:

  • Asset tags, plates, tools, instrument IDs

Notes:

  • Focus on marking (not cutting) in typical CO2 workflows

Textiles & Leather

Applications:

Notes:

  • Clean, sealed edges on many synthetics

Glass & Stone (Etch/Mark)

Applications:

  • Awards, décor, signage accents

Notes:

  • Produces a frosted surface; results vary by composition

Paper & Cardboard

Applications:

  • Packaging prototypes, stencils, short-run POP

Notes:

  • Fast processing; consider charring tolerance

Safety & suitability:

  • PVC is not recommended for laser processing.
  • Extraction/filtration is important for composites, films, and foams.
